RefractSurvey Markdown Formatting

From Pixel Refraction Studio

RefractSurvey supports a small set of text formatting, called markdown, in question text and in long-text answers. It's deliberately simple — just enough to make instructions and longer answers easier to read, without turning into a full word processor.

What you can use

You type You get
**bold** bold
*italic* italic
++underline++ underline
# Heading A large heading
## Heading A smaller heading
- item A bulleted list item
1. item A numbered list item

Bulleted and numbered lists can be nested by indenting a line further than the one above it.

There's deliberately no support for code blocks or syntax highlighting — survey content doesn't tend to need it, and leaving it out keeps things simple.

Where it's used

  • Question text, anywhere in the survey builder (except the internal labels for image and link-display questions, which respondents never see).
  • Long-text answers respondents write themselves — with a live "▸ Preview" you can expand right under the field as you type.
  • Description blocks (see Question Types).

Wherever you can type markdown, there's a small formatting hint right below the field as a reminder of the syntax above.
