RefractSurvey is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Here's exactly what that means once you're running it.

What you pay us

Item Cost
RefractSurvey license Paid once, at purchase
Monthly subscription $0
Per-seat / per-user fees $0
Per-project fees $0
Per-survey fees $0
Per-response fees $0
Update fees $0 — every future release is a free download once you've bought in

There's no license key phoning home anywhere, and no feature gets locked behind a higher tier. Everything documented on this wiki is included.

What you pay someone else

Because RefractSurvey is self-hosted, the only ongoing cost is wherever you choose to run it:

  • A server. A small virtual private server is plenty for most teams — RefractSurvey is plain PHP and MySQL/MariaDB with no background workers, no queue, and no build step to run.
  • A domain name, if you want a friendly URL instead of a bare IP address. Optional.
  • Nothing else. Automated Server Setup even requests a free HTTPS certificate from Let's Encrypt for you, so there's no certificate fee either.

Unlimited, for real

There's no metering anywhere in the app:

  • Unlimited projects — run one game or ten from the same install.
  • Unlimited surveys — active, closed, or draft, it's all the same.
  • Unlimited responses — a wildly successful playtest wave doesn't cost you anything extra.
  • Unlimited users — add your whole team, and every external tester too, without a seat count anywhere.
